I started wearing Dollar Tree readers in my 40s and noticed a decline in my vision approaching my 50s. I made an appointment with my optometrist friend from church to get checked out. Macular degeneration runs in my family, and I need to do all I can to stay on top of that.
After examining me, Andy (the optometrist) pulls his chair over near to me and prepares to give me the bad news. I thought the genetic disease had begun. He tells me in the most sympathetic manner, “There’s nothing you could do to prevent this. You have done well to go this long. But…you need bi-focals.” I was so releived! He thought I was going to be distraught about needing glasses. I told him, “I’m not that vain. I will just be happy to see.” I really don’t mind my new accessory if it means I can stay active and continue to work.
